Ambient mastering is the opposite of loudness maximization. The goal is preserving maximum dynamic range. Gentle, transparent compression maintains naturalness. High-frequency detail in reverb tails and spatial elements must be preserved. Target: -16 to -20 LUFS for maximum openness.
